Sipping at the Algonquin

The Algonquin cocktail brings me back to that time in the mid-90s when I had the pleasure of staying at the famous Algonquin hotel in New York City.

I was having drinks in the lobby with a view of the infamous round table popularized by Dorothy Parker, Truman Capote and the rest of their “Vicious Circle”.

While sipping my cocktail, the revolving doors spun, I looked up and saw a silhouette of a goddess surrounded by the bright sunlight. The ethereal figure stepped further into the lobby and adjusted her luscious brown hair. I watched her as she walked passed me. That was when I realized it was the one and only Brooke Shields.

Algonquin cocktail

A classic whiskey drink from the 1920s or 1930s… its history is unclear but I do know the name was inspired by the midtown Manhattan hotel.
