I was recently asked what I write, or what is my genre/style that I write. So, I thought I write this blog post.
Although I would like to explore different story genres, I am currently in what I refer to as my noir fiction period – inspired by my love of noir films and books.
What is noir fiction? This article on masterclass.com offers a great definition with examples.
I entered this genre with my last book A MISTAKE INCOMPLETE, and am continuing within this style with my forthcoming novel THE TASTE OF DATURA.
For those who read my first book THE LOVE FOOL, I remember giving that story and some of the characters tiny elements of noir fiction, but that story is mostly inspired by romantic comedies, and works by F. Scott Fitzgerald and Federico Fellini.
With my second book, A MISTAKE INCOMPLETE, I entered the world of noir fiction – a place I wanted to be. The story itself was sparked by my love of works by Alfred Hitchcock and author Patricia Highsmith, and by characters portrayed by Humphrey Bogart, Joseph Cotton, Barbara Stanwyck, and Lauren Bacall, to name a few.
Coming soon is my third book, THE TASTE OF DATURA – which will continue my exploration of noir fiction. This story has more darkness and suspense than my last, with some elements of myth and mystique. Could I be testing the waters of another genre? Maybe.
Look for an announcement coming very soon with more details about THE TASTE OF DATURA, including the book cover art.
